About blogging...

Hi guys,

It has been a very, very long time since I've visited blogger. I apologize for that, I really do want to find more time to blog more but I've been pretty busy IRL. I have also recently decided that at this point I won't continue my blog here, instead I will continue my blog on the Dreamfall Chapters forums where you can follow me on my long journey all the way to Chapters and then back Home. Blogging on the forums both quicker and easier so you can expect more blogs in the future.

Thank you for reading and I hope to see you all on the forums.

A quick update

Hi guys,

So it's been ages since my last blog post, but I just wanted to pop in real quick, and tell you guys that I haven't forgotten aobut you. I have been really busy with my exams and hosting the Hand That Bites ARG on the Undreaming forums amongst other things. And today I posted this Dreamfall review and I changed some thing about the blog that bothered me. Other then that I don't really have a lot of news right now, but with new videos coming very soon that will change for sure.

I'll talk to you guys soon!

Ps. I feel like I should mention that Blogger has been pretty much unusable for quite a while now. After hitting publish text becomes bigger or smaller, and pictures move. It's very annoiying and almost impossible to get right. Please bear with me.

Why I am excited for Dreamfall Chapters

Hi guys,

I just posted in this topic, and that inspired me to do a blogpost on the top 5 reasons why I am so very, VERY excited for Dreamfall Chapters.

1). Completing the amazing story
The story in Dreamfall and TLJ is the best story ever told in video-games. The story has made me laugh, and cry so many times, and I really just want to know what happens next. I don’t want it to ever end.

2). Meeting familiar and new characters
I am convinced that the stories in this saga are so amazing because of all the amazing character that Ragnar & Co have created. How can you not fall in love with the amazing characters? How can you not care for them? I am really looking forward to meeting Zoë, Kian, Crow, Blind Bob, Benrime, Roper Blacks, Brian Westhouse, Emma, Reza, and the Vagabond again. As well as meeting all kinds of new and crazy characters such as Falk Friedman, Madame Nyx, Wit, Mira and Likho.

3). Returning to previously visited and new locations
Now that we have established that the world, and the characters are amazing I feel like I should mention the worlds, and the locations in the games. I don’t think there has ever been such a realistic setting in any game-series, and the locations really make the characters and stories shine even more. I really look forward to seeing Marcuria, the Storytime, and Riverwood again, as well as visiting new locations such as Europolis, and Ge’en.

4). Freedom of exploration
When I played Dreamfall I was very excited to see old locations I remembered from TLJ in full 3D, but I was a little disappointed with the lack of exploration. So when Ragnar & Co announced there would be free-roaming in certain chapters of the game, I squee’d big time. I am going to check every nook and cranny of the world, and I am going to get immersed in this game like never before.

5). The Lore master and The House of All Worlds
The 5th reason why I am so excited for Dreamfall Chapters are the Lore master and House of All Worlds stretch goals. I cannot wait to gather books and scrolls all over Arcadia and explore the House of All Worlds to find out it’s purpose.

And there you have it guys, of course this are not the only reasons I am excited for this game, but this is my top 5. So, why are you excited for this game, and what are you looking forward to the most?

Catching up

Hi guys,

So it's been what... 24 days since my last blogpost? And it's not like nothing happened, cuz you know... kickstarter happened! 1,538,425 DOLLAR! I mean it's amazing, isn't it? It also means we are getting the directors cut, YAY!

Speaking of the directors cut, there is this guy. He was originally cut from the game, but brought back when the kickstarter hit 1 million. And let me tell you, this guy looks like bad news. This guy, Falk Friedman he is a corporate jager: a gun-for-hire used by multinationals to take care of any work they want done off the books. Anything they don't want the "Eye in the Sky to notice". He has been hired by WATIcorp to track down something or someone. Though Funcom didn't want to reveal who, or what this actually was.

The Directors cut brought some other character back to the saga, including Madame Nyx "The flamboyant proprietor of the House of Dreams", and Likho "a fierce, one-eyed Dolmari fighter and a member of the underground". This made me wonder, is this a thing they are doing with the Dolmari losing an eye in every game. I remember that Tun had three in TLJ, the Dolmari in Dreamfall had two, and now this guy has only one...

In other news I have been working on two small projects related to the Longest Journey saga. One being a short story written from the perspective of the White Dragon Reborn, not sure any of you will ever read that, but you know-- I might post it when I feel it is ready. I am not going to reveal any details about the second project I'm working on, but it's something I'm pretty excited about, and I really hope I can pull it off. That's all I'm gonna say on topic for now, just you know-- stay tuned yeah?

O by the way, the new Dreamfall Chapters forum has launched, and I decided that with the neat little blog option I would also post my blog post overthere, for those who prefer that. Of course that doesn't mean that I will abandon this blog, but you know am I just giving you guys a choice.

Well I think right now that is all I have for you guys, don't forget to check back, and you know-- have a nice week!

Stretch Goals

Hi guys,

So I want to talk about the Stretch Goals for the Kickstarter campaign. I know that by the time this post is released we've already reached a lot of those Stretch Goals, but I just want to give my opinion on every single one of them.

First up was Apples & Penguins which would allow Red Thread Games to make a Mac and Linux verion of Dreamfall Chapters. I personally don't have Mac or Linux, but I am happy to see we've reached this Stretch Goal so that Dreamfall Chapters can reach a much broader audience.

The second Stretch Goal was The Loremaster. I was (and am) very excited about this Stetch Goal. I am the kind of player who walks around in The Elderscroll games reading all the books, gathering all the lore, so this addition to the game made me very happy, especially because the lore in this game is better than in any other games.

When the third Stretch Goal, A Longer Journey, was announced I just knew we had to reach it. Not just because it will bring back a long time favorite of mine, Abanaxus, but also because the mysterious Oular quicky grabbed my attention.

The fourth Stretch Goal, "Mystery is Imporant Señorita" took me by surprise. Of course I remembered Lady Alvane, and the House of All World, but I never expected we would get a chance to go back there and explore in Dreamfall Chapters. Well played Ragnar, well played!

We haven't reached the fith Strech Goal yet, but we are almost there... Storytime, which essentially is a recap of The Longest Journey and Dreamfall in the form of an interactive Graphic Novel seems a good way to get new players into the saga.... and if there is one saga that desserves more players, it is the TLJ saga.

There hasn't been a lof of information released about the next Stretch Goals, but with an improved soundtrack, more voice-overs, translations, an in-game gallery, and the ever mysterious TLJH there is more then enough reason for everyone to keep pledging, and upping those pledges.

The first trailer

Hi guys,

So it has been AGES since my last post. Like everyone else I have been following all the new Dreamfall Chapters information released on Kickstarter, but even though we learned a lot of cool things, I didn't have the time to write about it... Yesterday was a very, very important day as it saw the release of a new and amazing trailer.

I first saw this Trailer yesterday evening on my cellphone, I was pretty tired, and I was not as happy with the trailer as I should have been. Would I have written this yesterday it wouldn't have been very positive. But now that I have watched it again, and now that I can see the beauty of it, this post is going to be a lot more positive.

The trailer starts with an unknown woman (who sounds like the White Dragon) telling us that the Sky God has been looking for the Dreamer (Zoe). This omnious sentence confused me right away. At first I found it sounded generic, but then the fan inside me awoke, and I became curious about this "mystery". "Whose Dreams is she dreaming?"

After that the narrator explained the general story of the saga, while we saw some previously released footage again, and some new storytime footage at 1:14 as well. Eventhough this didn't give a lot of insight in the new game, it again made me realize how much I want this game, and how much I want this story to continue.

At 1:46 the best part of the trailer began, introducing Zoe, who was lost in the Storytime, where every story begins... including this one. After that we saw more old and new footage of the game, accompanied by the amazing soundtrack, which couldn't have been more fitting for this trailer.

After showing the Elgwan and a very creepy robot, the trailer ends with: "Where have you gone to Dreamer? Whose story are you dreaming now?" So where has she gone? And what story will she be dreaming? We will have to wait to find out.

The Kickstarter Video

Hi guys,

So I opened the page for the Dreamfall Chapters Kickstarter, and I saw the video. I hit play, and I watched a short recap of the previous two games, while listening to the amazing music. I hadn't seen anything, but I already knew that today would be a great day. Then I saw her... Zoë...

She was standing in the street where the journeyman was located. Behind her I saw Roper Klacks, Benrime, Ary Kiryn, an azadi soldier, the fish merchant, the spicemerchant and his twin brother. Then Zoë's face changed.... She look worried. She looked up, and then I saw the ravens... After which the stunning logo appeared and the first part, the first chapters of the video began: Chapter One: Introduction.

Then Ragnar appeared explaining what we have been trough in the past 6 years, after which he told us that the day that the saga continues has finally come. While Ragnar continued talking about what kind of game Dreamfall Chapters would be, I just sat there, with a huge smile on my face. This is what I had been waiting for, for so long... It is finally happening: Dreamfall Chapters is coming! He talked about concluding the story. He talked about Zoë, the girl who saved April. And then he told us that they could not make this game without us, they need our help (god knows they do).

Then Dag Scheve appeared, and Chapter Two: The Story began. He talked about how Zoë saved the world and found faith, but was unable to save herself. He talked about Kian was arrested by his own people, and about April's horrible dead. Then he assured us that Dreamfall Chapters will pick up the story exactly where they left it off.

Then epic music started playing as a shady man walked past the camera, introducing Chapter Three: The Gameplay. The shady man was soon revealed to be the ever amazing Martin Bruusgaard. He talks about the things that makes the TLJ games special, and he talks about how they want the gameplay to support the story, the world an the amazing characters. After that we get another quick sneakpeak of what Marcuria will look like in Dreamfall Chapters.

The next part, Chapter Four: The Team takes us to Red Thread Games HQ, and show us a little bit of what goes on behind the scenes. We see a bit of the Unity Engine, and the team talks a little bit about the mechanics, and how the mechanics serve the story in Dreamfall Chapters.

Then there is Christer Sveen, who talks about the new rendering technology, the art direction, and about how the art direction makes the Worlds feel alive and believable. Then he talks about how crowdfunding Dreamfall Chapters via kickstarter gives them complete creative freedom to make the game that they want to make.

After showing a little bit more of the Unity Engine again, Zoë appears on the screen and she looked at me, and smiled. It broke my hearth knowing that as of right now she still hasn't awakened from her coma. After that Chapter Five: Our Pledge started. This was the 5th and final chapter. Ragnar talks about how Dreamfall Chapters will be a deep, challenging, complex and emotional game with a soul. And he promisses that the game will be a fitting continuation of the Longest Journey saga. Then once more Martin and Dag tell us why we should support them in making Dreamfall Chapters, and then Ragnar ends with:

"So please contribute and help us make Dreamfall Chapters more then just a beautiful dream."

After that the logo appears one last time and the words PLEDGE NOW appear on the screen. So go for it! Don't wait any longer and do it. It'll be worth it.

About beanies, screens and parties

Hi guys,

So there have been some quite exciting this going on. First of all "the mystery man under the hood" (no not the prophet) has been revealed to be the ever amazing Martin Bruusgaard! I was really sad when Martin left the TSW team @Funcom so I am very happy to see him again. Welcome to the team Martin, and I still love your beanies.

In other news... guess what Ragnar shared on twitter yesterday? Is it Zoe? Is it her twin? Is our new protagonist? If you ask me it is the different Zoe we were promised earlier. Whatever the case, I am very excited to see this pic, and I am looking foward to see what else they have in store for us. Also: Ragnar clean your screen.

Last, but not least the winners for the Kickstarter Party (which is going to happen in 3 days) have been announced. Congrats to all the winners, and we are looking forward to you tweets, pictures and insider information. ;) - No seriously anything you are allowed to share will be appriciated.

That's all I have for you guys right now, as always, don't forget to check back as new info appears.

The island of Ge'en

Hi guys,

By the Mo'Jaals! Ragnar has shared the following picture on Facebook, with this description: "A bit of impromptu Dreamfall Chapters concept art: The island of Ge'en. At least as it looks in my head. By way of my new Pogo Connect pen and Paper on the iPad."

For those of you who don't remember the island being mentioned in TLJ, here is a quick recap on what we know about Ge'en (thanks to the wiki):

Ge'en is an island in the Sea of Song, near Alais and the Bristan Atoll. Its capital is Aeras and its major export is apples. The population are a "spiritual people" who worship the Mo'Jaal. Being an island, its inhabitants are a seafaring folk, represented in TLJ by Captian Horatio Nebevay. The appear to have an unfair justice system, as Captain Nebevay implies when he threatens to haul April before the "Three Biased Judges of Ge'en".

So it looks like we have got another confirmed location for Chapters. I am looking forward to learning more about this island, and possibly about the fate of the Aliatient, Maerum, Orlowol, Q'aman and the Stickmen who all lived in this region back in the day, and thus might have a chance of appearing in Dreamfall Chapters.

That's all I have for you guys right now, as always, don't forget to check back as new info appears.

The Red Thread Games website is here

Hi guys,

So the Red Thread Games website is finally available! With it came the very first screenshot "Autumn in Marcuria". Now I have seen some people complain that this are the same graphics that were used with Dreamfall (and yes they are), but this is probably an early alpha version, and by now I would settle from a new game with DF graphics too.

There were three smart-ass comments below the picture:
1. Marcuria is back. It's some time after the end of Dreamfall, and things have changed. How they've changed, we're not revealing quite yet.
2. Dreamfall took place in winter. Dreamfall Chapters takes place in ALL season. The above shot is Marcuria in autmn.
3. We're actually working on Dreamfall Chapters. We didn't make it up to avoid embarrasing questions from our parents about what we're doing with our lives.

So a few things stand out to me, first of all: There is no snow. Sure you can go like, duh! it's the autumn, but it sure is refreshing to see Marcuria in a differend state. Another thing that I was wondering about right away is: WDTRG (Where Did The Road Go)? In Dreamfall (and TLJ) there was a paved road in this street, but that does not seem to be here anymore, also TREES!  Trees are good.

It also seems to me that the tower has been moved to the left (compared to what we saw in Dreamfall), which might not mean anything at all, but I found it curious. Last but not least it is simply nice to see the game's logo again.

On the website there is an announcement for a TWITTER COMPETITION to enter the kickstarter party on februari the 7th, which means that kickstarter is not that far away! Whatever the case I am curious to see what else Red Thread Game will have in store for us in the next few months.

That's all I have for you guys right now, as always, don't forget to check back as new info appears.

Ps. Check the very awesome 404 message. That is very curious, very curious indeed.

2013

Hi guys,

So it have been a slow couple of weeks (again), but I finally have some (small) nice things that I can talk about. First of all Ragnar mentioned that the new controls from Dreamfall Chapters already feel a lot better than Dreamfall's controls. They will be a combination of full 3D movement and point-and-click interaction. An announcement that makes me VERY happy! I want [W] to make me go forward and not move away from the camera, thank you very much!

In other new Red Thread Games is now on twitter (their website is not live yet though). They have already tweeted a very nice picture with Funcom employee Dag Scheve. It is good to see that wheels are turning, and that they are working on the whole Kickstarter project. Though it did make me wonder though... didn't Ragnar say in the RPS interview that they would not be taking any Funcom employees? Whatever happened to that?

Also now that it is 2013 (happy "new" year y'all) I am really looking forward to the prommised (tasty) gifts we will be getting this year. I cannot wait to discovering more about Dreamfall Chapters and I hope you guys will stick along with me on this journey.

That's all I have for you guys, as always, don't forget to check back as new info appears.
